NSFW Photos: Naked Models Visit Times Square & Nobody Does A Damn Thing To Stop It

Gothamist Article: July 10, 2013

Hide your eyes, children and prudes: there are young, naked New Yorkers on the loose again. Artist Andy Golub set up shop in Times Square this afternoon, bringing with him two nude models, a few brushes, and a whole lot of body paint.

The models, Gianna James and Ethan Itzkow, began the day at 12 o’clock with their naughty bits covered, but dropped trou soon after Golub began his bodily artistry. The threesome occupied a small area on the corner of 46th Street and Broadway, and predictably drew a large crowd. “I think it’s wonderful,” said Adam McCallister, 32, who was visiting from LA for work. “It’s a bold statement. I guess if you’re going to do it, go all in.”

This isn’t Golub’s first time at the birthday suit rodeo; one of his models was arrested in 2011 for public nudity, and Golub himself has been arrested before on charges of public lewdness. But this time, there were no cops to be found, and Golub’s friend Barry Kostrinsky said that since it was considered a performance, not a money-making operation, the law couldn’t lay a finger on him.

Golub, a resident of upstate town Nyack—whose residents might recognize him as the driver of this funky little thing—carried out his operation in peace. “I didn’t get here from the body side of it,” he told us. “I got here from the art side of it.”

Of course, this is Times Square we’re talking about, and it’s safe to say that most people were not fixated on the art side of it. Men, women, children, and cartoon characters alike ogled the models, causing James to throw her hands up. “Why are we shooting at my ass?” she said at one point.

Even the Naked Indian—a man who walks around Times Square in his underwear and a headdress—raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know…to see penis?” he said. It’s safe to say he probably won’t be participating anytime soon. “They asked me last year, [if I would be involved]” he told us. But there are some things even the Naked Indian won’t touch. “I draw the line at the underwear,” he declared.
